What a toilet - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Dave - August 13 - 10:20 pm100000 miles and many of them to and from the shop. Fuel pump failure, belt tensioner failure, starter failure, brake jobs every 15K; its one thing after another. Interior is nice, comfortable, but the wind noise necessitates cranking the volume to hear the music. Brakes are terrible, feels like the car isnt going to stop, and handles like a truck. Has a lot of room for hauling, and when you step on it, it has power (3.8L eng).Wife likes it though the mechanical failures have put us in the market for a new van--NOT a Caravan. Anybody want to buy a Sport model Caravan?

Very pleased - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By stephen douglass - July 8 - 10:00 amOne of the best vehicles (all makes and models) I have owned. Very stylish, comfortable, reliable and cost efficient. A pleasure to take long trips for my wife and I. Sooo much room!!! My wife recently drove alone from Houston to SC.... non-stop!!! Gas mileage is 24-26 with 3.3L. Looked at the new models, but I cant justify getting rid of this gem!!!

1999 Grand Caravan Sport - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By John Walker - June 19 - 10:00 amInitially we loved this vehicle. It performed well and was an excellent family hauler and trust me, we have a clan to move! Over the past year we have experienced several problems including the drive belt tensioner, having to replace the front brakes twice in 13,000 miles, needing new front brake rotors, exhaust sensor replacement and speedometer sensor replacement. A little too much to swallow in such a short period of time. Our perception is that the vehicle is falling apart after just a few years of use. We are ready to jump ship and move to a new, different brand vehicle.

This was the best minivan in the 90s? - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By CWD - April 28 - 10:00 amThis minivan was advertised and reviewed as the best minivan of the 90s. Thank goodness the 90s are over. This van has been unreliable. We were a block from home heading to the airport and both the input and output transmission sensors gave out. This was at 4:00 a.m. and we had to catch a plane at 6:00 a.m. We have had to replace all four power window motors, and we have had to replace the drivers window motor 3 times and it just went bad again. This vehicle is totally unreliable, and it is a shame, as the concept is quite good. Unfortunately, the reality is, this vehicle sucks!

Wonderful Van - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By RandyMac - April 25 - 2:00 amI purchased my van used in 1999 with a little trepidation, but I could not have been more pleased. It drives wonderfully and have done 0 repairs only routine maintenance.

Very good vehicle - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By charhart - January 28 - 8:56 amHave to say this van has been VERY reliable. Has 225,000 miles and only minor problems. Replaced alternator about a year ago. Recently the cooling fans went out causing the radiator to crack. Replaced the radiator, still havent found out whats wrong with the fans. Gas mileage got bad about a year ago. Wierd story. Used to go from east georgia to north alabama on 3/4 tank of gas. It got great gas mileage. Took it to get a routine oil change one day and when I picked it up I had to put gas in it 3 times to make it to florida. Ever since then its had the worst gas mileage. Weird? Yes. Other than that Ive had no problems with it. Very roomy, comfortable, drives great.

Long term Grand Caravan Sport - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Caravan - October 14 - 5:46 amOwned the car for 10 years now. Got us through 2 kids, friends, 20 Nascar events to Texas Motor Speedway. Car has been garage kept for 10 years, spent its whole life shuttling kids in a 10 mile radius. Just now starting to have oil leaks. Belt tensioner was fixed 2 years ago (loud-but did not effect performance or reliability) and is starting to make noise again. We have the sport, its comfortable as far as vans go. Went through 3 sets of tires in 10 years. Ignition cylinder locked out 2 times in 10 years, both times had to be dragged out of garage. Overall, a good local kid hauler for 10 years. Time for a sportier Volvo next week! Goodbye minivan!

Sport model - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By BUSTER - June 28 - 8:53 amTwo sets of tires, one set of brakes and one transmission sensor (warranty) have been the only repairs. 115,000 miles later, I am still getting 18.5 mpg in city, 24.5 mpg crossing the country with family and luggage.

Good Looks, Bad Problems - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Chris B - May 30 - 10:00 amI bought the van because I like the looks, but it didnt take long to find out that I bought a piece of junk. I have talked to other owners of this van and they all have the same problems. Here is a list of my problems: 1. I have had three sensors go out at $125 ea. (Car will not shift gears when the sensor goes out) 2.The drivers side brake caliper has been replaced 2 times and still doesnt work right. 3. Most of all, even though I had the transmission serviced every 35000 miles, It still cost me $2000 to replace it before the van hit 100,000 miles. On top of everythings else, these vans have such lousy resale values I cant even get rid of it.

Very pleased - 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan
By tk1780 - May 19 - 10:36 pmVery surprised at the reliability of this van. We have 135,000 on it and have taken it out west 7 times and to Florida 3 times and never a problem. Tires, brakes and shocks so far. One secret is that we change the trans fluid every 30,000 miles. I think that is why the transmission has lasted so long. The engine is smooth. 19 mpg in town 24 on hiway. It is a great value. Cant believe it has lasted so long.
